The Brian Charette Trio
Brian Charette is a New York City based organist and pianist. He has performed with some of the classics such as Joni Mitchell, Chaka Khan, Paul Simon, and Cyndi Lauper. His leading trio features Jay Azzolina on guitar and Jordan Young on drums; a modern jazz ensemble that is fresh and unique. On Saturday, February 9 at 9pm they will be performing at Quinn’s in Beacon. There is no cover and all are welcome.

Black Stories Matter and Free Storytelling Workshop
This February, the Hudson Valley’s storytelling nonprofit TMI Project, in partnership with Black History Month Kingston, will present two Black Stories Matter events: An Evening of Stories from Across Generations, the first ever intergenerational performance to feature radically candid true stories from local people of color. It will be taking place on February 16 at 7pm followed by a free true storytelling workshop on February 17 at 1pm. The performances will lead into a facilitated community discussion about race, identity, and inclusion. In addition to providing a space for the audience to process the deeply intimate and stirring performances, the post-performance discussion will allow the audience to tackle hard questions around race and community, offering suggestions and tools to create meaningful change. Get Heart Smart
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. Learn how to make healthy choices and manage your heart health at Northern Dutchess Hospital Heart-Healthy Lunch and Learn. The no cost, educational Heart Month event is from 11am to 1pm Tuesday, February 19, in the hospital’s cafeteria conference room, 6511 Springbrook Ave. A nutritious meal will be served while the audience hears from a cardiologist about risk factors, advanced treatments, blood pressure guidelines and more. Valentine’s Wine, Cheese and Chocolate Tasting
Celebrate the weekend before Valentine’s Day, Saturday February 9 from 1-4pm, at the Cunneen-Hackett Arts Center’s Grand Parlor. Pairings of a variety of wines, cheeses, and chocolate desserts, all while listening to love songs. The warmth and ambiance in the historic parlor is the perfect respite on a chilly winter’s day. Come join the Hudson Valley as we cheer to all that we love. The cost will be $20 per person and you can find the Cunneen-Hackett Arts Center on 9 Vassar Street in Poughkeepsie.

Youth Book Club of Tivoli: Book Scavenger by Jennifer Chambliss Bertman
Another great book event this month at the Tivoli Free Library is The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly. On February 21 from 7-8pm come and join the paige turners book club in discussion of New York Times bestselling author John Connolly’s unique imagination novel. The Book of Lost Things takes readers through the end of innocence into adulthood and beyond in this dark and triumphantly creative novel of grief and loss, loyalty and love, and the redemptive power of stories. Mediterranean Boot Camp
With its emphasis on healthful ingredients and vivid flavors, Mediterranean cooking has become a favorite among restaurants in American. In this Culinary Institute of America Boot Camp, you will utilize the unique pantries and flavor profiles of Provence, Southern Italy, Spain, Greece, Turkey, and North Africa, and discover the four ingredients that unify the dishes from these diverse regions. You’ll also get an introduction to the specific cooking methods and equipment commonly used in the region. From pissaladière, patatas a la Riojana, and pane Sardo to tapas and tagine of lamb, you’ll prepare and savor the best of the Mediterranean table—and bring your newfound skills to your own kitchen.  The boot camp begins on Tuesday, January 15th and runs through the 18th. Chili Bowl Fiesta
There is nothing like a hot steamy bowl of chili on a cold winter day. Each bowl of chili is unique, weather you make it at home from scratch or go out to eat a bowl at your local pub, a bowl of chili is key to warm up the body and the spirit. Join the community for Stone Ridge’s 22nd Annual Chili Bowl Fiesta where you can taste delicious chili from over 20 Hudson Valley restaurants. There will be donations of over 50 gallons of chili that will be available for meat eaters, vegans, and vegetarians alike. Also at this event you will get to browse and purchase some of the best handmade pottery the area has to offer. Over 2,000 handmade bowls, mugs, plates, and tumblers will be on display made from resident artists, students, interns, and local potters. Winter Wellness Market
The Hudson Valley Holistic Market offers monthly events that provide the community with holistically minded vendors, practitioners, and readers alike. This month, from 10am-5pm at the Comfort Suites Fishkill on 835 Route 52, will feature a large winter market. Some of the vendors to include are Earth Treasures, Empowered By Nature, Janice’s Jewelry, Mama’s Sweet Scrubs, plus many more. Each vendor has something unique and special to offer. Lorraine Hughes is the Reflexology practitioner who will be available, and the market will also include some interactive classes. Such will include Dream a Little Dream (Dream Interpretation) with Cathy Kane and Intro to the Runes with Starwolf. If you are in need of some winter healing or if you are interested in developing a healthier lifestyle, please join the community in this free and educational event.
